Current role of the individual within the company and merchant payments ecosystem:
As Co-founder and Chief Business Development Officer of Silverflow, Robert is responsible for maintaining relationships with the card schemes, acquirers, PSPs and regulators. In many talks, interviews and articles outside of SIlverflow, Robert has called for the payments industry to modernise: at a time when some of the world’s largest companies are still using twenty year-old technology so much more could be done if the infrastructure underpinning payments was bought up to date.
Brief biography of the nominee:
Robert Kraal is one of the few people in the world with over 25 years of experience in online payments, and in his position at Silverflow is building a new payments ecosystem fit for the 21st century. After completing his degree in Geophysics, he joined Bibit, the first global PSP, which was acquired by RBS/Worldpay. There, he went on to lead account management, before moving to Google. As Adyen COO from 2010, he was responsible for running the global acquiring and processing service.
What differentiates the nominee as the Leader / Influencer in merchant payments?
GPV founder Javier Perez says of Robert that: “Few people have his level of experience in payments, and even fewer are focussed on the future instead of trying to patch up decades-old systems. His work outside of Silverflow to promote this view, and the payments industry in general, continues to be an inspiration to us.” At a time when the payment industry desperately needs to leave behind outdated technology, Robert’s straight-talking, no-nonsense approach to the industry is vitally important.
